James Brown, Michael Jackson, and Prince on same stage, nuff said!!! What do you do when you get three legends of music on stage? You get down with your bad self!!! I have included a clip (see below) of an event titled "Live in Concert: James Brown-Joined on Stage by B.B. King" from a August 20, 1983 performance at the Beverly Theater. I just happened upon this video browsing through some other Michael Jackson videos. I showed it to my mother who remembered that she had a VHS copy of the event but she never watched it. Lo and behold when I watch the videotape it was of the same event. However on the VHS copy, Prince's piece was edited out. Any way I loved this video, MJ looked totally shy about coming up on stage with his mentor but once he was one there, man he tore it up just like James Brown taught him. Prince, well he was good for a bit then he seemed to be, I guess distracted toward the end of his set. I am in the process of converting some VHS tapes in the home to digital video and this will definitely be one of them. RIP JB and MJ...I am quite sure you two are putting on quite a show right now !!! I have included two links one with the version found on the VHS (here) and with Prince's piece in the show (here). I wish I could have been in the audience for this one but at that time I was only about 5 but shoot man I would not have cared. You call this journalism? I am going to put ABC News on blast after reading an article titled "Michael Jackson's Kids Have 15 Reasons to Freak". In it the writer, Susan Donaldson James, blasts pratically all the members of the Jackson family clan and why the children of Michael Jackson will probably find a better home elsewhere. Granted the Jackson home was not the greatest but in my opinion, the Jackson Family are like our very own Royalty in the states especially among black folk. Maybe this was Ms. James' attempt at some crude humor. Well I suggest she go find a new stand up routine because I found nothing the article to laugh at. A man just died, it shouldn't matter that he is a famous celebrity or not. The family he left behind is trying to find a way to honor him and all the millions of fans he left behind. They don't need to have articles trying to make light of their difficult situation. I would expect to find such crap in the Enquirer or the Star not in a reputable news service like ABC. If this is how ABC wishes to conduct its news then it might be high time for me to start getting my news elsewhere. She better hope Al Sharpton don't get a hold to this because we all know how Al rolls, now don't we? They better get ready to make a "donation" to the National Action Network or face some other serious repurcussions becuase of there lapse in judgement in printing such garbage. -- chocolate_matters Source: ABCnews who is this nut? Reportedly a 'secret" wife of the late, great MJ has surfaced and her name is, hold on to your hats..."Princess Zaynab Nona Paris Lola bin Fahd bin Khalid al Saud". Whoa, ain't that a mouthful. She claims that elongated name was given to her by MJ after he married her in a secret wedding ceremony in 2005 and she said she bore 15 kids including the 3 he cared for before he died. Not only that but she is petitioning the court in a 93 page document (hand written by the way) to have all monies and assets of MJ be turned over to her. Oh wait, this gets better, she also makes demands such as this: Is this chick flipping or what? I mean I can see the plausibility of a secret wedding (hey Janet did it) and demanding money and all, but why would you make demands for 100 lycra suits and all the supply of whitening cream? This has to be someone's practical joke or there is really some deranged fan or groupie that is so distraught over his passing that she has on flipped her lid. Whoever this is I hope she gets some serious help. Seriously. Source: OK! 'vibe' is no more Due to the current the recession, the sixteen year old magazine has ceased publication as of June 30, 2009. They had planned an MJ tribute issue for the next cover but that ain't gonna happen now. Editor-in-chief Danyel Smith released this statement: On behalf the Vibe content staff (the best in this business), it is with
great sadness, and with heads held high, that we leave the building today. We
were assigning and editing a Michael Jackson tribute issue when we got the news. It's a
tragic week in overall, but as the doors of Vibe Media Group close, on the eve
of the magazine's sixteenth anniversary, it's a sad day for music, for hip hop
in particular, and for the millions of readers and users who have loved and who
continue to love the Vibe brand. We thank you, we have served you with joy,
pride and excellence, and we will miss you. Oh well. I knew Vibe was losing readers and subscribers for a while. I was one of them though I ceased being a subscriber several years ago. When I was in college at wnec, I decided to use my hard earned workstudy money to order me a year's subscription to the magazine co-founded by the legendary Quincy Jones (it was since sold to another party back in 2006). Anyway I still have covers from the years 1997-98 and those include the Notorious B.I.G. cover after his death in Mar 97. Back then I would read articles by a writer by the name of Bonz Malone who was very insightful in his viewpoint of the hip-hop and urban landscape. I do see their online version still seems to continuing or maybe in time that too will fold. Who knows in this economic climate. Vibe's last issue ![]() Source: MSN news chocolate tears...if i may admit something without feeling like my manhood is challenged i watched these two videos of my man MJ i'll be there he said chocolate tears poured out no need to hold it in a being with such talent it's hard to let go for the longest he played a part of my life he felt like family he suffered some setbacks like all of us do even still his greatness shone through at least now i know MJ is in a better place dancin' singin' on an eternal tour with his fans' hearts and minds forevermore. Other thoughts: I read MJ wikipedia entry and I got fumed to see how MTV treated the black artists from back in the day. If it wasn't for MJ and his ground breaking videos the only place we would be able to see videos for people of color today would be BET and/or TV One. Every last artist of color of today owes him a debt of thanks. Also I am sick and tired of people calling the man mentally unstable. They can't tell the difference between mentally unstable and a genius. What may be "unstable" for us is not what is considered "stable" for minds like Michael, Sammy Davis, Jr. , Billie Holiday, or Miles Davis to name some of the few geniuses. People with minds like these are on a different plane in terms of thinking so using our own, so-call "normal" barometer of thinking, doesn't cut it for them. I appreciate the brother, James "the third answer" Mtume from WRKS radio program Open Line, for breaking it down how geniuses like Michael minds work. Basically as the brother stated, they are in another realm for which those of us "normal" folk dare not enter. For us to look at what they do and how they do it is mind boggling and would drive any "normal" person truly insane. You can't comprehend genius, you just look at it in awe and hope that whatever it is rubs off on you so you can just get a sampling, a taste. I don't know how to describe it but these videos I referred to in the above poem are so poignant and moving...I got watery eyes (no lie) after viewing them.
